Commissioned to Govern

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (Matthew 28:19-20 emphasis mine)

Jesus Didn’t Die So You Could Be Comfortable

Recently, I came across a post by a popular blogger who joked about his lack of desire to raise his hands in praise and worship at church. His response? Bring coffee, hold it, and then you won’t need to raise your hands. My first thought was, “Wow! They let him have coffee in the sanctuary?” My second and more prominent thought was, “Who cares if you don’t feel like raising your hands? Who cares if you’re tired? Who cares if you’re uncomfortable raising your hands? Did Jesus feel like being publicly scourged? Did Jesus feel like being displayed like a thief between two real thieves? Did Jesus feel like stretching out his hands and being nailed to the cross? Did Jesus feel like bearing the sins of the world on His shoulders and having His Father forsake him?” I think not!

5 Types of Toxic People

Toxic people are everywhere: in our homes, churches, jobs, and more. And although they may parade as loved ones and spiritual advisors, they are absolutely detrimental to your well-being. They must be identified so they can be dealt with accordingly.

7 Popular Misconceptions about Jesus & the Bible, Part II

The world is full of lies being perpetuated as “Bible” as the Kardashians would say, but it couldn’t further from the truth. And the truth is, people have tainted and twisted their what the Bible says to suit their various “truths” and agendas. But we were warned about this long ago:

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. (II Timothy 4:3, 4)

There you have it. Those with “itching ears” are attending to fables a.k.a. seeker-friendly “gospels” and thrown out the real one. Here are seven misconception these itchy-eared people have.

The Deception of the Seeker-Friendly “Gospel”

O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth... (Galatians 3:1)

Recently, I partook in a LinkedIn Christian group conversation. I hadn’t participated in any of my groups for a while so I figured, “why not?” I had no idea what I was in for. The topic was this: What is the definition of SIN and INIQUITY? Can UN-repentant sinners gain eternal life?

10 Reasons Why I Refuse to Celebrate May Day

As a little girl in Des Moines, IA (my birthplace), on May 1st, we would leave little May Day baskets full of popcorn-M&M, etc. mixtures on our neighbor’s doorstep. We’d ring the bell, and then run off and hide, waiting for them to answer the door and discover their treat. My neighbors, the Mahnkees--the salt-of-the-earth, playmates, Narnian Chronicle-watching-and-reading dears we actually “borrowed” sugar and eggs from once upon a time--would leave May Day baskets on our doorstep too. Seems pretty innocent right? Fun times for the kids right? Wrong. Well, it is fun for the kids and maybe even for the adults. But God doesn't think so. So with that said, here are 10 reasons why I refuse to celebrate May Day. Enjoy!

Does God Answer Sinners’ Prayers?

Recently, a Facebook friend of mine started an interesting conversation which shortly turned into a debate with a confused, Mormon woman upholding certain beliefs that are just not founded in the Bible. Not the mainstream Bible anyway. One of these beliefs was that God hears and answers sinners’ prayers....I knew the woman was wrong, but didn't have the time to sit down and share with her why her mindset on this particular topic was wrong. But I did later.

Promotion: Satan’s “Blessing”

Promotion is a wonderful thing. When God promotes you, you get what’s coming to you (in a good way) and has been for a long while. When God promotes you, no naysayer can bar your way, after all, the Scripture says: "For exaltation comes neither from the east nor from the west nor from the south. But God is the Judge: He puts down one, and exalts another. (Psalm 75:6, 7)

Feasts, Fulfillment & Confusion

Happy Passover to all of my Judeo-Christian friends! Now before you go all hyper-grace, anti-Old-Testament on me like one random tweeter, let’s do what I always do: take it to the Word.

Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. So this day shall be to you a memorial; and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord throughout your generations. You shall keep it as a feast by an everlasting ordinance. (Exodus 12:13, 14 emphasis mine)

Monthly Review (March)

I wasn’t going to post the monthly goals review for March. That was until I got an inbox message on Facebook with a faithful reader nicely demanding for it, lol. j/k You see, I wasn’t going to post this time because for the last month I had one very personal, yet very real goal: to stay sane.

I’m Gay and Proud!!!!

Yes, you read that correctly. I’m gay. So please tell me how wonderfully courageous I am for coming “out” and letting you in on this big secret. Please tell me how wonderful it is that I’ve finally accepted myself. Now accept me. And don’t just accept me, don’t just tolerate me, but you MUST celebrate me. Yes!! Take out those rainbow coloured streamers, sparkly confetti, and show me those spirit fingers as you shout your undying support of me.

When Night Falls on America

This is a little something I felt compelled to write. You may think this a conspiracy theory or some other anti-Obama, anti-government nonsense but you would be wrong. The truth is, this is faction. Technically, it’s fiction because it hasn’t happened. However, we have the technology to make this fiction fact, hence the term “faction.” With a few more pushes in the wrong direction, this could be “U.S.” I do not think it will be, but it could be. The future is a tricky thing. That said, enjoy! Please leave your comments below of what you think!

The Germany Pull (I Am a Reformer)

11 years ago, during the Summer of 2003, I visited Germany. My high school choir had been hand-selected by pre-Grammy-award-winning composer, Eric Whitacre and the brilliance that is him, to be a part of his Paradise Lost opera chorus set to debut in Berlin. This would be second trip to Europe (still waiting on the third, and fourth, and fifth…) and after a 2-day stop in Switzerland which is absolutely stunning and prided for its status as the cleanest country in Europe, we spend the rest of the 2-week trip traversing the homeland of so many great men.
