Word Curses from High Places
We’re just going to dive right in. No preliminaries. Let’s talk words in general first.
The Power of Words
Words carry power. Proverbs 18:21 says that life and death are in the power of the tongue. Your words create your world. Your words are your access point to the supernatural realm. The Kingdom of God is voice-activated.
The Power of Offices & Seats
When you encounter a legitimate apostle, prophet, or pastor, you encounter someone who has been given a gift from “on high.” This is not a gift that was asked for; it was revealed and bestowed by the power of God. It was graced or empowered by the Spirit of God. It was merely confirmed and recognized by man. Unlike the gifts (manifestations) of the Spirit, this is not something you can receive through coveting (strong desire). Either you have the call or you don’t.
The office is given from on high. Therefore, if the office is from Heaven, the power and more importantly, the authority comes from Heaven. Positional authority is not something to be played down, belittled, or demeaned. When a prophet or an apostle speaks a word, power and authority backs it. Just like when your phone rings, it’s backed by your particular carrier, yet that carrier doesn’t dictate what is said on the phone calls or in the text messages. In the same way, the office of the Fivefold minister is backed by heavenly power and authority because God built it into the design. This is an amazing thing when the minister uses their office to do the will of the Lord and bless people. Yet it is a dangerous thing when these people use their office to pronounce curses from hell against people.
The Nature & Power of Curses
1) Agreement.
Proverbs 26:2 states that “Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, so a curse without cause shall not alight.” Ecclesiastes 10:8 also states, “He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him,” (KJV). Now in plain language, what does this mean?
It means that if there is no cause, there is no (cursed) effect; if there is no welcome signal or invitation, there is no landing. If there is no hole in the hedge, there is no serpent (tiny dragon) that can get through. No open door, no unwelcome visitor.
No cause, no curse!
Apostle Ivory Hopkins says, “For witchcraft to come to you, it must work through you.”
So in order for a curse of any kind to be able to prosper (work) against you, something inside of you must be in agreement with it.
I will not speak with you much longer, for the ruler of the world (Satan) is coming. And he has no claim on Me [no power over Me nor anything that he can use against Me]... (John 14:30 AMP)
Jesus recognized that satan can gain authority over us by default when we sin or continue to operate in ignorance in an area of our lives (which is partly why the apostle Paul told us not to be ignorant of the devil’s devices in 2 Corinthians 2:11). Satan and his kingdom lost their authority when they fell. Thus, the only authority they have now is the authority we abdicate through sin and ignorance.
2) Which Curse?
Next, we must understand that there are two types of curses:
Curses from Heaven a.k.a. Judgments.
Curses from Hell.
BOTH carry Power, but only one carries authority in general. Evil, hateful, wicked words are empowered by hell. Words that are born of impure or evil motives are empowered by hell.
3) Unconscious Witchcraft.
I have personally only ever heard Apostle Ivory Hopkins address this subject, yet it’s a reality I have to come to terms with experientially as well in recent months. I was in a situation where I had a nightmare within a nightmare and I KNEW three things immediately upon waking up:
There was a devil in the air at the side of my bed. (I didn’t see it, yet perceived it; I could picture it by the Spirit.)
The dream was the product of witchcraft brought by the said demon.
It was a particular set of ministers who had sent the witchcraft-dream. Y’all it was SO demonic, but I would swear on a stack of Bibles to you the above three points.
I was LIVID that these people had the NERVE to send witchcraft against me!! Yet here’s the thing: I knew it wasn’t consciously done. I knew they weren’t somewhere literally casting spells, speaking incantations, or performing Occultic rituals. I knew that much. HOWEVER, it is possible for your spirit and your soul to be utilized for the sake of sending witchcraft to someone.
Proverbs 23 states,
When you sit down to eat with a ruler,
Consider carefully what is before you;
And put a knife to your throat
If you are a man given to appetite.
Do not desire his delicacies,
For they are deceptive food….
Do not eat the bread of a miser,
Nor desire his delicacies;
For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
“Eat and drink!” he says to you,
But his heart is not with you.
This is where the Jews developed the concept of the evil eye. The eyes are the windows of the soul (Luke 11:34-36). If your eye is evil toward me, I don’t want anything to do with you. If your eye is evil toward me, then you may be unconsciously releasing witchcraft against me.
In one of his Exposing Superstitions and Their Origins mentorship teaching, Apostle Ivory Hopkins breaks down the concept of the evil eye:
Evil Eye (Antiquity, Near East and Europe)
1 Samuel 18:8: And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?
1 Samuel 18:9: And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
A. A dirty look, a withering glance, if looks could kill, to stare with daggers. In the case of King Saul and David, this was a manifestation of the spirit of hatred, anger and jealousy.
B. The causing of illness, misfortune, calamity and death by looks of strangers and by envious looks.
Man is a tripartite being: spirit, soul, and body. We are spirits who have souls and are clothed in bodies. Your soul - the seat (throne) of your mind, will, and emotions - is a gateway or portal to your spirit man. In other words, unbalanced, impure, and evil motives and emotions can and will negatively affect your spirit man. It will reflect and dictate the spirit(s) you operate in. You can be spiritually accurate and a witch. You can have an office from on high and be(come) a witch. You can have authority from Heaven and still be a witch. All because you are perverse (crooked) in your soul and spirit.
This will play out in your words: the words you pray, the tongues you pray, the words you prophesy...any judgments you pronounce. An off soul and or spirit robs you of your ability to be able to try - test, examine, weigh, filter, discern, judge - the spirits to see if they be of God. So if you are a prophet who sees, your filter for your spiritual sight is clouded. If you are a prophet who hears, your ability to hear becomes suspect. If you are a prophet who feels/sense/perceives, your sensors will all be wonky (out of wack). You get the idea. Everything becomes distorted...the problem is, you’re numb to it because you’re your motives and spirit are off.
So when you are deeply jealous or envious, when you have developed a deep hatred or rage against someone for whatever reason, your spirit man is fair game for the demonic assignments. You cannot operate out of jealousy or hatred and simultaneously operate in the Spirit of God. The Spirit of God is likened to a dove often because doves are extremely particular about where they land. And the slightest disturbance could cause it to fly away.
Many people think they are backed by the Spirit of Truth, yet in reality, they are not. The Spirit of Truth does not come to back up people; It only backs up itself. Truth is a Person and His name is Jesus, and Jesus is the Word made flesh (John 1:14). So the Spirit and the Word will ALWAYS agree. Therefore, if your personal spirit is off, there is no way it can come into alignment with the Spirit of God.
So when your soul and spirit are off, logically, it follows that your mouth will speak off things. What you think, you will speak. And what you speak, you will produce. In a nutshell? We have a whole lot of witches in the pulpit.
Bringing It Home
When we confess with our mouths and believe in our hearts that Jesus is the Christ and our personal Saviour, He saves your spirit-man. Yet your soul needs to be sanctified, while your flesh needs to be crucified. This is the answer to “Can a Christian be possessed?” The answer is YES!! Anything you don’t submit to God is fair game to being used and manipulated by the enemy.
So when your soul is off, it will eventually affect your spirit. When your spirit is off, it will eventually affect your words. And when your words are off, they can partner with and even be fueled by hell.
Now revisiting the offices of Fivefold ministers, the authority that issues from them is from Heaven. Therefore, when those ministers use their authority to speak evil, hateful, hurtful, vile words against people, they are manipulating the authority from Heaven to fulfill a demonic agenda. Yet because evil does not proceed from Heaven, other spirits not from Heaven will rush to empower the words of these apostles, prophets, pastors, and so forth.
What does this look like in plain terms? It’s the pastors who curse the people that leave their ministry. It’s the prophets and apostles who try to intimidate people into doing their will, and threaten curses upon them if they don’t agree.
I have friends who were extremely and actively involved in a ministry. This ministry had also been extremely public in their support of my friends, but the Lord led them to leave the mininstry. And when they did leave, when they did not cower at the commands and demands of that ministry, the leaders pronounced a curse on my friends that they would lose their home and ministry within 90 days. I saw a screenshot a couple months before this instance where the lead minister pronounced an indirect curse insinuating that the ministers in the process of leaving would “shoot themselves in the foot.” THE DEVIL IS A WHOLE, ENTIRE LIAR!!! That was a word curse and when I saw it, and went in the spirit and broke it. I know my friends did the same. (These were also the same ministers who’d sent the aforementioned nightmare within a nightmare against me around the same time frame.)
A Key to Deliverance from Controlling Ministries
After talking with the friends mentioned above, I decided to embark on a three-day fast to break the witchcraft from these ministers over my life and most importantly, to break the evil and perverted soul ties that had been formed between the ministry and me. My friends had done the same, doing a water only fast for three days. My fast was liquids only. Every vow, every spiritual/emotional/mental tie I could think of that connected me to that ministry, I verbally renounced and disavowed.
I declared out loud that my success is ministry was NOT tied to that ministry.
I declared out loud that my promotion and elevation was NOT tied to that ministry. (That had been a huge soul tie for me.)
I declared out loud that my prosperity was NOT tied to that ministry.
If you have been delivered from a witchy ministry, I encourage you to fast and break any and all unhealthy soul ties as you are lead as well. Allow the Holy Spirit to cause things that need to be disavowed and broken to surface, and deal with them as He brings them to mind. It works!!
In Closing
The words of those occupying the governing offices of the apostle and the prophet as well as those occupying the relational office of the pastor carry a special measure of authority that is reflected in their words. By his words, Elijah closed the heavens and called down fire to consume human beings (I Kings 17:1, 18:1-40). By his words, Elisha called out two she-bears to maul the 42 youths who dishonoured him (2 Kings 2:23-24). By his words, Peter announced the death of Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11). By his words, Saul unknowingly condemned Jonathan to death (I Sam. 14:24-46, 2 Sam. 1). By his words, Jacob unknowingly pronounced death on his beloved wife, Rachel (Gen. 31:19-42, 35:16-20).
Words are POWERFUL. Life and death and everything in between is embodied in them. Elijah, Elisha, and Peter caused terrible things to happen by the authoritative words of their respective offices. Saul and Jacob unwittingly and rashly pronounced authoritative curses by virtue of their relational authority as a father and husband, respectively. Your position carries authority. And when your soul or spirit goes unchecked, your words can be well-crafted weapons of hell against the righteous and the innocent. We must cry out for repentance in the pulpits!!
