The Origin of Demons, Part II
Howdy! Last time, we began discussing the origin of demons with one of three theories. The first theory being that demons and fallen angels are one and the same. We also dispelled that theory. Today, we’ll be addressing the second theory.

2) Demons are the Disembodied Spirits of a Pre-Adamic Race.
This theory promotes the Divine Judgment Creation Theory wherein the world was created--perfect--in Genesis 1:1. Why? Because everything God creates is perfect, as it should be. And yet, we see in the next verse that the earth was “without form” (tohu) and “void” (bohu). In that same verse, we view the world as being a mass of waters in darkness...until the Spirit of the Lord hovers over the waters.
Many scholars believe these two seemingly seamless verses encompass the entire creation, destruction, and recreation of the world. In a rather Atlantean, or if you prefer, Tyrian-like Deluge--strikingly similar to that which destroyed the world again in Noah’s day--the earth was destroyed in the wrath of God.
This pre-Adamic world was created and inhabited by a peoples NOT created in the image or likeness of God. This people are believed to have welcomed Lucifer when he fell from Heaven like lightning along with one-third of the angels and somehow, some way, rebelled with him and as a result, the earth was they knew it was destroyed. Whether these people sinned which led them to welcoming Lucifer or they were corrupted once Lucifer fell down amongst them is not clear. Yet I believe the story of the King of Tyre explains Lucifer’s role in the earth at that time as well as his consequent destruction.
The word of the Lord came to me again, saying, “Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord God:
“Because your heart is lifted up,
And you say, ‘I am a god,
I sit in the seat of gods,
In the midst of the seas,’
Yet you are a man, and not a god,
Though you set your heart as the heart of a god
(Behold, you are wiser than Daniel!
There is no secret that can be hidden from you!
With your wisdom and your understanding
You have gained riches for yourself,
And gathered gold and silver into your treasuries;
By your great wisdom in trade you have increased your riches,
And your heart is lifted up because of your riches),”
‘Therefore thus says the Lord God:
“Because you have set your heart as the heart of a god,
Behold, therefore, I will bring strangers against you,
The most terrible of the nations;
And they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom,
And defile your splendor.
They shall throw you down into the Pit,
And you shall die the death of the slain
In the midst of the seas.
Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
“Son of man, take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God:
“You were the seal of perfection,
Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
You were in Eden, the garden of God;
Every precious stone was your covering:
The sardius, topaz, and diamond,
Beryl, onyx, and jasper,
Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold.
The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes
Was prepared for you on the day you were created.
“You were the anointed cherub who covers;
I established you;
You were on the holy mountain of God;
You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.
You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created,
Till iniquity was found in you.
“By the abundance of your trading
You became filled with violence within,
And you sinned;
Therefore I cast you as a profane thing
Out of the mountain of God;
And I destroyed you, O covering cherub,
From the midst of the fiery stones.
“Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty;
You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor;
I cast you to the ground,
I laid you before kings,
That they might gaze at you.
“You defiled your sanctuaries
By the multitude of your iniquities,
By the iniquity of your trading;
Therefore I brought fire from your midst;
It devoured you,
And I turned you to ashes upon the earth
In the sight of all who saw you.
All who knew you among the peoples are astonished at you;
You have become a horror,
And shall be no more forever.”’”
(Ezekiel 28:1-19)
This Pompeiian-type destruction is a bit perplexing to us modern readers. The prophet addresses the Prince and or King of Tyre, yet also is addressing Satan himself. While the prophet is delivering a word of destruction and a lamentation, this seems to be a repeat, déjà vu. And I believe this Pompeiian-type destruction was followed by an Atlantean or Babylonian (future tense) -type destruction. In other words, destroyed by fire, then water. One minister I know of suggested that when the original Deluge came, as is the case often in Bible prophecy, the sun refused to shine, thus causing an Ice Age, freezing the world over.
Behold, the day of the Lord comes,
Cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger,
To lay the land desolate;
And He will destroy its sinners from it.
For the stars of heaven and their constellations
Will not give their light;
The sun will be darkened in its going forth,
And the moon will not cause its light to shine.
(Isaiah 13:9-10)
When I put out your light,
I will cover the heavens, and make its stars dark;
I will cover the sun with a cloud,
And the moon shall not give her light.
All the bright lights of the heavens I will make dark over you,
And bring darkness upon your land,”
Says the Lord God.
(Ezekiel 32:7-8)
There are other passages that indicate the strong possibility of this Ice Age like this one.
From the chamber of the south comes the whirlwind,
And cold from the scattering winds of the north.
By the breath of God ice is given,
And the broad waters are frozen.
Also with moisture He saturates the thick clouds;
He scatters His bright clouds.
And they swirl about, being turned by His guidance,
That they may do whatever He commands them
On the face of the whole earth.
He causes it to come,
Whether for correction,
Or for His land,
Or for mercy.
(Job 37:9-13)
This would align with our scientific proof that there was, in fact, an Ice Age. Not to mention the fact that this entire theory provides sound, solid Biblical reasoning for why the earth plainly shows that it is much older than 7,000 years. But back to the Ice Age… When the world was frozen, the Spirit of the Lord--the same Lord Who is a Consuming Fire--hovered over the face of the [frozen] waters and melted them. Thus, bringing us to Genesis 1:3 when the earth begins to be re-created as we know it.
After this destruction of the pre-Adamic race and judgment of the Lucifer and his angels, this was more than likely the time Hell was created and these dark angels temporarily held until the earth was made anew and we see Satan steal into the Garden of Eden in the form of a Serpent.
Also in this destruction-judgment scenario, this pre-Adamic race, as a divine judgment, were stripped of their bodies, thus, becoming “disembodied spirits.” These spirits (however they came to be) are ever-seeking a “temple” (human body) to inhabit.
“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.” (Luke 11:24-26)
Next time, we’ll discuss the last theory. Stay tuned!
