Witchcraft & Deliverance Chronicles: A Former Ghost Hunter (Divination)
This is the story of a young man named, Ryan, a former paranormal investigator. Through a high school English assignment, he was introduced into the paranormal in the form of ghost hunting, and became obsessed with this branch of the Occult.

Dowsing Rods a.k.a. Divning Rods
Ryan employed two methods by which to access the spirit world, 1) dowsing rods also known as divining rods--the same tools of divination by which Mormonism founder, Joseph Smith, hunted for treasure--and 2) a Ouija board. Both of these were methods of divination which is witchcraft are forbidden in Scripture.
700 Club host, Gordon Robertson, shared two scriptures to address the root of this problem of divination and contacting the dead:
“They sacrificed to demons, not to God,
To gods they did not know,
To new gods, new arrivals
That your fathers did not fear.”
(Deuteronomy 32:17)
“When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you. You shall be blameless before the Lord your God. For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the Lord your God has not appointed such for you. “The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like [Moses] from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear…” (Deuteronomy 18:9-15)
This is what we are dabbling with in truth when we dabble in ghost hunting, the paranormal, divination, and other Occultic practices.
QUESTIONS ON THE PARANORMAL
The 700 Club also took questions about the paranormal segment and I would like to address the two questions that I felt were not answered correctly, Scripturally, or experientially.
Question #1: I have been having a lot of weird encounters lately. I will be half-asleep when I feel a dark force around me. Often I hear footsteps and some movement in my room when this happens. I try to say the name of “Jesus” but yet I cannot speak… I feel paralyzed. I have been pleading the blood of Jesus over my home and children. Are these encounters common among Christians and what do I need to do?
Answer #1: Contrary to Robertson’s response, demonically induced sleep paralysis, while not normal, is common to many believers. Thankfully, I have never had this experience, yet my mother, step-mother, and several people I’ve met as well as many people I haven’t have all had similar experiences. It usually goes something like this: they wake up feeling a pressure or presence, usually resting on their chest. They feel paralyzed. They try to say the name of Jesus, yet cannot, so they think it and at the thought of the name of Jesus, the spirit leaves. Again, I have heard of this happening MANY times and it was always to Believers.
I do, however, agree with the solution Robertson gave which is:
- Get prayer agreement to join with you in prayer over yourself and home, even in a prayer walk through your house.
- Take authority over the spirit(s) and command them to leave in the name of Jesus, bind and loose.
For those who have dealt with this phenomenon or know someone who has, I highly recommend this blopost!
Question #3: Can you be possessed by a demon and not know it?
Answer #1: Gordon says it is unlikely; that you must give your permission, that you must open the door to that possession. I say ABSOLUTELY. And I’ll even go so far as to say that I believe most people who are possessed are so without knowing it. They may even realise they have a problem of some sort, yet don’t know that it is the result of a demonic possession.
Yes, we must open doors to these things and as Gordon indicated, there are examples of children in various cults and the Occult who are directly or indirectly dedicated to Satan. There are also many examples of spiritual inheritances that can take the form of generational curses wherein a person may be born demonically possessed due to circumstances which took places by their parents or other ancestors, their conception, or something that happened while they were in their mother’s womb. Certain illnesses may also be the evidence of demonic possession or at least demonization. The doorway to the illnesses is often a spirit of pain (you feel the pain, believe you are sick, and through your words and actions you come into agreement with the illness) or unforgiveness and its related conditions: bitterness, resentment, and hate. Sexual immorality and perversion is also a major doorway through demonic possession can happen.
Yet I believe it is honestly a rare person who opens the door to the devil and knows they are opening the door to the devil and demonic possession. If they did, most wouldn’t do it.
The good news though, is however a spirit or spirits have entered you, your spouse, your child, your pet, or your home, you CAN take authority over it as a believer in the name of Jesus! And if you are not yet a Believer, pray the Prayer of Salvation found on this page! God Bless! :)
